Wombat Goes Walkabout - Morpurgo

If you like the good ole' Outback, then you might like this book. Baby wombat was having fun digging holes but when he came up, his mother was gone. Where could she be he wondered? he searched everywhere. He met lots of interesting animals who all asked what he was and what he could do. His response each time was that he could dig and think. When he sees a fire in the bush he immediately thinks and starts digging a big hole so he'll be safe. When the other animals see him digging they encourage him to run. However the fire is progressing faster than they can run so he invites them into his hole. When the fire is passed he goes out again to search for his mother, this time all the animals help and they find her.
